A patient brought me a book and asked me to share my opinion on how to find peace in noise.
After finishing the book over the weekend, I searched my drawer and found the heart-shaped stone. I want to share the story of the stone with everyone.
Years ago, I visited Sedona in the hope of a spiritual connection. Many believe the Sedona Vortexes are powerful and can enhance meditation, self-discovery, and spiritual growth. The vortexes are often associated with four specific sites in the Sedona area: Cathedral Rock, Bell Rock, Airport Mesa, and Boynton Canyon. I was disappointed after hiking all the vortexes because I did not experience any enlightenment. On my way back, I was on a trail of Boynton Canyon. An old man handed me a heart-shaped stone when he passed by me. I asked, “Why heart shape?” He answered”: I picked up stones around the area, carved them into heart shapes, and gave them to people on the trail. You are here seeking happiness, but you do not need to travel anywhere. You have it, it is in your heart.” All of sudden, I felt enlightened! Looking at me and other people, we all go up and down, seeking the so-called “inner peace”, indeed, peace is within us. If everyone can attain that peace from within, then the world will be a peaceful place too.
Cultivating a quiet mind involves observing our thoughts without judgment and focusing on the present moment.
